Amendment

A formal modification to an existing Indian Standard issued between full revisions.

An amendment is a formal, BIS-published modification to one or more clauses of an existing Indian Standard, issued in the period between full revisions of the standard. Amendments are numbered sequentially (Amendment No. 1, Amendment No. 2, etc.).

For BIS certification purposes, manufacturers must always test against the current edition of the IS including all amendments. An old test report that does not reflect a subsequent amendment may be rejected by BIS. BIS publishes amendment notices on its website; Complyr tracks amendments for commonly used IS numbers.
