ISI Mark Certification
For domestic manufacturers. The ISI Mark is India's most recognised product conformity mark, issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme I.
What is the ISI Mark?
The ISI Mark (Indian Standards Institution mark) is issued by BIS to domestic manufacturers whose products conform to the relevant Indian Standard (IS). It is required by law for hundreds of products covered by Quality Control Orders — including steel, cement, electrical cables, LPG cylinders, and many more.
Selling a QCO-covered product without an ISI Mark in India can attract penalties, seizure, and criminal liability under the BIS Act 2016.

Frequently asked questions
Who needs an ISI Mark?
Domestic manufacturers of products covered by a mandatory Quality Control Order (QCO) must obtain an ISI Mark before selling in India. Voluntary ISI Mark is available for other IS-covered products.
How long does Scheme I certification take?
Typically 10–18 weeks from application to licence, depending on the IS standard, lab queue, and BIS office load.
What is the BIS annual fee?
Annual fees depend on the IS standard and your turnover. They typically range from ₹1,000 to ₹15,000 per year, plus marking fees per unit.
Can foreign manufacturers get an ISI Mark?
No. ISI Mark (Scheme I) is only for manufacturers with production facilities in India. Foreign manufacturers must use FMCS (Scheme II).
