HUID
Hallmark Unique ID — a 6-character alphanumeric code mandatory on every hallmarked jewellery piece in India.
The Hallmark Unique Identification number (HUID) is a six-digit alphanumeric code assigned to each piece of hallmarked jewellery at the time of hallmarking at a BIS-licensed Assaying and Hallmarking Centre (AHC). It creates a digital record linking every physical piece to its hallmarking data.
HUID is mandatory for all gold jewellery hallmarked in India since July 2021, and for silver jewellery hallmarked under IS 2112:2025 since September 2025. Consumers can verify a HUID's authenticity — and see when and where a piece was hallmarked — through the BIS portal at huidonline.bis.gov.in or the BIS Care app.
The HUID is assigned by the AHC, not the jeweller. Jewellers must register with BIS and update the HUID portal when pieces are sold, melted, or exported.
