BIS Certification for LPG & Gas Equipment — India 2026
Mandatory BIS ISI Mark certification for LPG cylinders, pressure regulators, valves, hoses, and gas-related safety equipment under Indian Standards.
LPG and gas equipment are safety-critical products subject to some of the most rigorously enforced BIS QCOs in India. The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) and BIS jointly regulate LPG equipment. Mandatory ISI certification covers cylinders, pressure regulators, valves, hoses, and gas stoves. Non-certified products cannot be manufactured, imported, or sold in India — and enforcement is particularly strict given the safety implications.
Applicable BIS Scheme
ISI Mark (Scheme I / FMCS)
LPG and gas equipment use ISI Mark under BIS Scheme I (domestic) or FMCS (foreign manufacturers). PESO approval may also be required in addition to BIS certification for certain equipment categories. Always check both BIS and PESO requirements before applying.

QCO Compliance Note: LPG equipment QCOs are enforced by the Ministry of Petroleum. Substandard cylinders and regulators have been the cause of fatal accidents — BIS inspections for this sector are among the most stringent. Foreign manufacturers of LPG cylinders or valves must apply under FMCS; the process includes overseas factory inspection and is typically 12–18 months.
