AIR

Authorised Indian Representative — an India-registered entity appointed by a foreign manufacturer to interface with BIS for FMCS.

An Authorised Indian Representative (AIR) is a legal entity registered under Indian law appointed by a foreign manufacturer as their representative for BIS FMCS certification. BIS requires every foreign FMCS applicant to have an AIR before the application can be submitted.

The AIR signs the BIS application, receives all official BIS correspondence, is responsible for ongoing compliance, and can be held legally liable under Indian law for product safety failures. The AIR must be an Indian-registered company, LLP, or individual — a foreign entity cannot serve as AIR.

Complyr offers AIR services as part of its FMCS consultancy. Alternatively, foreign manufacturers can appoint their Indian distributor, importer, or subsidiary.
