Scheme I

BIS product certification scheme for domestic manufacturers, resulting in an ISI Mark licence.

Scheme I (also called the Product Certification Scheme or ISI Mark Scheme) is the BIS certification route for manufacturers with production facilities in India. Applicants submit an application to their regional BIS office along with lab test reports and factory documentation.

The process involves a BIS officer factory inspection to verify production controls, in-house testing capability, and product conformity. On approval, BIS issues a CM/L licence number. The manufacturer can then affix the ISI Mark on all conforming products.

Scheme I is mandatory for products covered by QCOs. It can also be used voluntarily for non-QCO products to improve market acceptance. The licence is renewed annually.
